Sonae and MNAC promote the third edition of the largest Portuguese award in the field of new media. A unique initiative in Portugal seeking to foster artistic creation in innovative formats.
Applications to the Sonae Media Art Award, an initiative promoted by Sonae in partnership with the National Museum of Contemporary Art – Museu do Chiado (MNAC-MC), are open between 4 and 30 April.
The biennial award is the largest award in Portugal fostering artistic creation in the field of new media.
The selection panel will analyse the submitted applications and choose five finalists, who will be granted an individual allowance of five thousand euros to develop an original work.
Following the exhibition of the five pieces at MNAC – Museu do Chiado, the jury will select the winning artist of the Award’s third edition, granting a monetary prize of 40 thousand euros.
The Sonae Media Art Award is open to all artists of Portuguese nationality, or foreigners currently residing in Portugal, with a maximum age of 40 as of 31 December 2019, inclusive.
Interested applicants must send the organisation at least two and up to a maximum of three pieces, which will be evaluated by the selection panel. Works submitted at this stage may or not be original, but production dates must necessarily be under five years.
All work must be submitted through the project’s website (www.sonae-mediart.com
) or sent to MNAC-MC on a DVD, USB flash drive, in MP4 format, or, in case of online projects, by providing the corresponding links.
The selection panel will be made up of António Cerveira Pinto, artist, art critic, essayist, teacher and producer; André Rangel, researcher at CITAR, Art Director and Founder of the 3kta project; and Adelaide Ginga, curator and conservator of the National Museum of Contemporary Art - Museu do Chiado (MNAC-MC).
